A bridge is a single appliance that is
attached to a tooth on each side of the space where the tooth is
missing. Artificial tooth or teeth are attached in the middle of the
bridge which fills in the gap left by the missing tooth or teeth. The
teeth on either side of the gap are prepared for crowns and an
impression or mold is made. This mold is used to create a porcelain in a
dental laboratory. The bridge is then cemented onto the prepared surface
of the teeth. It is not removable; it remains stable in the mouth and
functions like natural teeth.
Fixed bridges are excellent restorations and are highly durable. They
have few disadvantages but may eventually need to be replaced due to
normal wear. A more permanent solution is dental implants, which, unlike
fixed bridges, do not wear down and need replacement
